On our last cruise someone was smoking pot day and night. I reported it and absolutely nothing was done we paid for a balcony and could not use it because the smell was so bad
.
KAREN LEVEL:
8/10 – This Karen is definitely on the higher end of the scale. Not only is she complaining about something that is technically illegal, but she also seems to have a sense of entitlement about her balcony that was not being used for its intended purpose.
REVIEW:
Ah, the joys of a relaxing cruise. The sun, the sea, the…smell of marijuana? It seems like our submitter had a less-than-pleasant experience on their last cruise due to a fellow passenger’s illegal activities. And what did they do about it? They reported it, of course. But to their dismay, nothing was done about it and they were unable to fully enjoy their balcony. Let’s dive into this case, shall we?
SCORECARD:
Entitlement: 8/10 – Our Karen here seems to believe that she is entitled to a smoke-free balcony on her cruise, even though it is a public space. Sorry, Karen, but that’s not how it works.
Absurdity: 7/10 – While it is understandable to be bothered by the smell of marijuana, it seems a bit extreme to expect the cruise staff to completely eradicate it from the ship.
Pettiness: 6/10 – Reporting the use of marijuana on a cruise is not necessarily petty, but expecting the staff to take immediate action and being upset when they don’t is a bit petty.

Escalation: 9/10 – This Karen definitely escalated the situation by reporting the use of marijuana and expecting immediate action to be taken.
Overall Karen Behavior: 8/10 – Taking all of these factors into consideration, it’s safe to say that this Karen’s behavior on the cruise was definitely on the Karen side of the spectrum.
PERFORMANCE:
This Karen’s performance was quite spectacular, in a not-so-great way. From reporting the use of marijuana to expecting immediate action to be taken, she definitely made her presence known on the cruise.
VERDICT:
Guilty. While it is understandable to be bothered by the smell of marijuana on a cruise, this Karen’s entitled behavior and expectation of immediate action make her guilty of Karen behavior.
OPINION:
As someone who has been on a cruise before, I can understand the frustration of dealing with unpleasant smells from other passengers. However, it is important to remember that a cruise ship is a public space and not everyone will adhere to your personal preferences. Reporting the use of marijuana is one thing, but expecting immediate action to be taken is a bit unreasonable.
THE DEFENSE:
While the use of marijuana on a cruise is technically illegal, it is also important to consider that the cruise staff may have had difficulty locating and addressing the issue. It is also possible that the submit
